DESIGN | Steam Bentwood Chairs by Dohoon Kim

Korean designer Dohoon Kim had this to say about the newly designed Bentwood Chairs. "Steam bentwood chair is designed and manufactured by steaming wood processing technique which bends the wood in steaming condition. This technique gives possibilities of environmentally sustainable design with using thin and small amount of wood and also some advantages such as free expression of formation, big elasticity, high durability and small deformation of wood so on. When you look at it in detail you can see each curve twists a bit in order to connect to each other and the bent backrest has the same width as the legs to create a unity of structure. Eventually this structural combination creates different expressions per viewing angle. As a result of the bentwood chair being made in this way it’s very light and strong at the same time." (via)
