Long Tall House

Spacespace designed this long tall house of five floors that occupies a narrow plot in Tokyo, Japan. With a name like Spacespace one would imagine they can maximize tight areas. Well they did an amazing job of exactly that. Privacy and light were put into space that you wouldn't expect them in. The two basement floors are build in concrete to resist soil pressure, while the three upper floors are made of wood for lightness and economy. The first floor has a bedroom, bathroom and parking. The second floor has a terrace, living room, dining room and kitchen. The house includes two buildings, one is like a long row house and the other one is like a tall tower. The south and north facades have a large translucent window and a aluminium wall which slide “up and down” manually by counter weigh mechanics. Many more photos after the jump.
